## overview
Syntax is a local-only fitness tracker. Your data stays on your device. We do not operate servers, collect analytics, or run ads.
## data storage
All workout logs, routines, settings, and history are stored locally on your device. Nothing is uploaded to any cloud service by Syntax itself.
## apple healthkit
Syntax can read and write data to Apple Health with your permission:
- Read: Workout history and heart rate data, so you can view all your training in one place.
- Write: Strength training workouts you log in Syntax, so they appear in Apple Health alongside your other activities.
HealthKit data is accessed only on-device and is never sent to external servers by Syntax. You can revoke HealthKit access at any time in Settings > Health > Data Access.
## ai features
Syntax includes an optional AI coach. To use it, you provide your own API key for a supported AI provider (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Google). When you use the AI coach:
- Your API key is stored locally on your device.
- Messages you send to the AI coach (which may include workout context) are sent directly from your device to the AI provider you configured.
- Syntax does not proxy, store, or have access to these conversations on any server.
Refer to your chosen AI provider's privacy policy for how they handle data sent to their API.
## analytics & tracking
Syntax does not include any analytics SDKs, tracking pixels, advertising frameworks, or crash reporting tools. We collect zero data about your usage.
## third-party services
Syntax does not integrate with any third-party services other than the optional AI providers you configure yourself and Apple HealthKit.
## children's privacy
Syntax does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13.
## changes to this policy
If we update this policy, the revised version will be posted at this URL with an updated effective date.
